Justice for Military Families

Serving the Legal Needs of Gold Star Military Families

Justice for Military Families (JMF) provides free legal assistance to Gold Star families through our partnership with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), Red Cross Military Veteran Caregiver Network and other similar organizations to assist in finding pro bono or low bono legal advice and/or representation for the Gold Star family members. We also accept requests for assistance directly from Gold Star families. JMF provides volunteer opportunities for Military Spouse JD Network (MSJDN) members to assist Gold Star families by providing free legal help or connections to pro bono and/or low bono attorneys and legal resources.

JMF is proud to offer services to Gold Star families defined as any immediate family member (parents or legal guardians, spouse, children, and siblings) or surviving next of kin if there is no immediate family member, of a U.S. service member that died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces in any component (active, reserve or guard) or from a service connected injury or illness. Further, there must be a nexus between the service member’s death and the legal issue that needs to be addressed.

Further, as part of our partnership with the American Red Cross Military and Veteran Caregiver Network, we will provide services to wounded veterans.

JMF will consider cases outside of these general eligibility guidelines on a case-by/case basis.

Justice for Military Families Grant Program

The Justice for Military Families Grant Program serves to provide grants for court filing fees to JMF eligible clients based on eligibility, financial need and available funds.
