Today, Military Spouse Magazine announced MSJDN member Reda Hicks as 2014 Armed Forces Insurance Army Spouse of the Year. The honor comes as no surprise to those of us who know Reda and her tireless advocacy on behalf of military families. In addition to being an Army wife, mom to a toddler and partner at a law firm, Reda also serves on the board of MSJDN, serves as Governance DIrector and Newsletter Editor. Her dedication to MSJDN and military spouse attorneys has been a crucial part of the growth of MSJDN over the past year. Reda exemplifies the best of our legal profession and the best of our military spouse community, and we are proud of this well-deserved recognition within the military spouse community.

“Reda has been such a tireless, hard-working advocate for military spouses, she truly deserves this recognition,” said Mary Reding, president of the Military Spouse JD Network. “We could not be more proud.” Reda and the five other individual Branch winners are in the running for the overall Military Spouse of the Year Award on March 4, with results announced in May.

Exemplifying her dedication to military families, Reda is hosting a brunch in Austin this Sunday, Feb. 23, celebrating Texas support of military families. The event, “Deep in the Heart,” honors the one-year anniversary of the licensing rule allowing Texas bar admission to qualified military spouse attorneys. The brunch will feature remarks from Texas Supreme Court Justice Phil Johnson; other event attendees and supporters include Chief Justice Nathan Hecht, a veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve JAG Corps; Justice Jeff Boyd; and Julia Vaughan, Executive Director of the Texas Board of Law Examiners.

The Sunday event culminates a week of events surrounding the Ms. JD Passion Forward Conference in Austin. As part of Passion Forward, MSJDN will be awarded with the “Women in Numbers” Award, honoring two or more women who have partnered with one another to create a unique program, business, or organization.
