“There are two ways to spread light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” – Edith Wharton
Of all the things I do in MSJDN, my absolute favorite is to nominate our deserving members and programs for awards. Nothing makes me more excited than sharing with the public how amazing you are. When I ran across the above quote, it really spoke to me. My own candle can burn only so brightly, but how much more light can I spread by reflecting the light of hundreds of my fellow military spouse attorneys? It’s great to be a glowing candle, but so much better to be the mirror.
And so, as the busy season for awards is ramping up, I want to encourage each of you to find a way to spread some MSJDN light. When you get notifications from your state, local, or specialty bars about awards, please email them to awards@msjdn.org. If you think a MSJDN member or program should be nominated, please let us know! And I cannot emphasize this enough – do not hesitate to self-nominate or ask for a letter of support from the awards committee. Nobody knows better than you all the incredible work you are doing. It can be awkward to self-nominate, but it works. Trust that you are fantastic and we want to support you!
The awards policy is available on the MSJDN website (click here to view – you will need to be logged in to view “Governance Documents” in the Library). The awards policy is an attachment to the Policies & Procedures. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me at awards@msjdn.org.
