As you may remember reading in our blog post earlier this year, “Waiver of Annual Bar Dues: Easing the Challenges of Military Spouse Attorneys—A Nationwide Movement Starting in Kentucky,” MSJDN has been working to even the playing field for milspouses in Kentucky by amending SCR 3.040, Dues: Date of Payment and Amount, adding language that waives the payment of bar dues for military spouse attorneys, which is a benefit currently offered to active duty military barred in Kentucky. Though the Kentucky Bar Association (KBA) was initially supportive of the rule change, the proposed language is convoluted and unclear. Here’s where you come in!
We are asking that any Kentucky-barred attorney submit a comment to KBA asking that they adopt the amendment with our provided language. Not sure what to write? No worries, we’ve got a sample comment you can use by clicking here. All comments must be sent to ruleamendments@kycourts.net by December 31, 2021! Should you have any questions, please email statelicensing@msjdn.org. Thank you!
