Governance Committee

Kelly Bohne - Chair

The purpose of the Governance Committee is to ensure the proper function of the Network and Foundation including maintaining the orgs registrations with the state of Virginia, mandatory state and federal non-profit filings as well as international review and proposed amendments to internal documents like the bylaw, policies and procedures. The committee meets about once monthly and volunteers contribute approximately 2-3 hours per month.

Kelly graduated from the University of Texas School of Law and is licensed in Texas and California. She has worked in big law, as a solo, and is now at a boutique exempt organizations firm out of Texas. She has lived at all the Marine Corps Bases except Hawaii and is headed next to Stuttgart, Germany with her active-duty Marine husband and 3 kids. Kelly grew up in east Texas and received her BA from the University of Pennsylvania. She has been a member of MSJDN off and on since 2011.

Maureen Lavery - Governance-Elect

Maureen Lavery graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law and has worked at Littler Mendelson, P.C. as Knowledge Management Counsel since 2013. Littler is a national law firm specializing in labor and employment law and was the 2018 recipient of the MSJDN Members’ Choice Award due to the firm’s support of military spouse attorneys in the workplace. Maureen is a native of San Diego, California and the spouse of an active duty Navy explosive ordnance disposal officer. Maureen has lived on three continents and completed ten PCS moves since getting married in 2006 and currently lives in Colorado Springs. She has been involved with MSJDN since 2011 and is passionate about networking with other military spouse attorneys, helping connect them with potential professional opportunities, and sharing advice and experience on finding portable employment. In her free time, Maureen enjoys skiing, Orangetheory Fitness, and watching her kids play sports.

The Committee has recently completed a full review of the organization bylaws and has made suggested amendments which will be voted on by the incoming Board.

Goals/Projects

Going forward, the Committee will be working on the orgs charitable solicitation registrations in various states as well as continuing its review of the internal governance documents.
