On Sunday, June 11, 2017, during MSJDN’s annual Board retreat weekend at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia, President Libby Jamison presented State Licensing Director and Board Member Karen Scanlan with the Mary Reding Smith Excellence in Leadership Award. Named for MSJDN’s Founder and first president, the award recognizes a leader who goes above and beyond for the organization.

Immediate Past President Josie Beets remarked, “Karen sets the standard for MSJDN leadership in both her internal and external relationships.” She added that Karen’s “dedication to serving military spouse attorneys is exemplified by her tireless commitment to leading the licensing initiatives across the 50 states.”

Libby Jamison commented,“Karen’s advocacy has highlighted MSJDN on the national stage. Through her efforts, we have seen the state licensing program flourish as an initiative enacting significant change for military families and offering meaningful volunteer opportunities for members.” Summing up Karen’s leadership role over the past several years with MSJDN, Libby added, “Karen’s advice and counsel has been central to our success as an organization and her steadfast dedication to the mission is an inspiration to us all.”

In addition to her role with MSJDN, Karen also serves on the Board of Directors for the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations. She and her retired Army spouse are the proud parents of four young boys.

Please join MSJDN in congratulating Karen and thanking her for all that she does on behalf of military families and military spouse attorneys!
