Events Committee
Sopanha T. Anderson - Chair
The Events Committee is responsible for supporting events for MSJDN members, including the Annual Reception, Making the Right Moves, Homefront Rising, Founders’ Day meet ups, Supreme Court Swearing In ceremonies, and other networking and social gatherings. Volunteers are needed to help with planning and publicizing local and national events.
Sopanha T. Anderson is a medical malpractice attorney licensed to practice in Texas, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Sopanha earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and her law degree from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis. MN. As an alum of the law school, Sopanha stays connected to her alma mater through her role as a director on the alumni board, supporting student-alumni engagement and community building initiatives.
As a military spouse for 20 years, faced with cross-country and international moves as well as sitting for multiple bar exams, Sopanha understands the unique challenges faced by military spouse attorneys and their families. Since joining MSJDN in 2012, Sopanha has been committed to the work of improving the professional careers of military spouses through advocacy. Sopanha currently resides in Virginia and enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.
Tiffany Tomsik - Vice-Chair
Tiffany Tomsik is a contracts specialist in the healthcare industry. Born and raised in Singapore, she is licensed to practice law in both Singapore and New York. As the spouse of a Foreign Area Officer, she has spent much of her family life overseas and now calls Northern Virginia home. Through the experiences of military life, she understands both the challenges and the opportunities of relocation, resilience, and building community wherever home may be. In addition to her professional work, Tiffany teaches yoga and enjoys creating meaningful events that bring people together. She is passionate about service, lifelong learning, and fostering connection and belonging in the communities she is part of. In that spirit, she is excited to support MSJDN as Vice Chair for Events and looks forward to helping shape programming that strengthens community ties.
Accomplishments
In 2020, in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, we transitioned to a virtual event model which resulted in the largest event turnout for MSJDN to-date at Making the Right Moves 2020 where Dr. Jill Biden served as our closing Keynote Speaker. We anticipate incorporating a virtual and/or hybrid event format moving forward to allow our geographically separated membership the most flexibility.
Goals/Projects
In 2021 we celebrated MSJDN's 10th Anniversary. In the Fall of 2021 we have two United States Supreme Court Swearing-In ceremonies scheduled as well as our Making the Right Moves annual professional development conference.
