Making the Right Moves (MRM) is right around the corner and it’s bigger and better than ever!
MSJDN’s annual conference is the only one of its kind, designed specifically to support professional development for military spouse attorneys. Whether you are an experienced attorney or prepping for the bar; a 20-year military spouse or just married; gainfully employed, searching for employment, or taking a break – MRM offers you the opportunity to connect with other military spouse attorneys and build your professional toolkit. Keep reading for a sampling of what the 5th annual MRM has in store:
Two days! MRM is expanding to both Friday and Saturday sessions this year. Friday features classroom learning with experts sharing their advice on building portable career paths, making your pitch to employers, and much more; Saturday offers social opportunities, including a networking breakfast at Dog Tag Bakery and private tours of the Library of Congress and the National Portrait Gallery.
Come for both days or take part in the events that work with your schedule. A MRM ticket covers both days; if you can only attend on Saturday, please RSVP here.

Other military spouse attorneys! MRM is the biggest gathering of military spouse attorneys and the best chance to connect with others who understand the challenges of balancing a legal career with military life. We know from the annual survey that this is the #1 reason members join MSJDN, so this year we’ve set aside time just for socializing on Saturday. Networking has paid off for attendees in the past who are now employed thanks to MRM connections, so don’t be shy – bring your business cards!
Awards! We’ll be recognizing two inspiring MSJDN members during lunch on Friday. Angela Allen will be awarded the 2017 MSJDN Exceptional Service Award and Bobbie Collins will be recognized with the inaugural 2017 MSJDN Outstanding Volunteer Award. Join us on the 29th to learn more about these military spouse attorneys making a meaningful difference in the lives of MSJDN members and the greater legal and military communities.

Your professional toolkit! Traveling to a conference can be expensive, especially when you are on the job hunt and balancing bar dues from multiple states. We get it. (That’s why we offer a scholarship!) But it’s important to invest in yourself and your professional goals. The MRM agenda is created to address issues frequently raised by MSJDN members – how do I talk to employers about my milspouse status, how do I create a portable career path, how can technology help me? You can see the full agenda here.
Get inspired! Multiple bar exams, the job search on repeat, not working due to another PCS – it can be a grind. Add in solo parenting or a last minute deployment – milspouse attorney life means there’s never a dull moment! Sometimes we get so entrenched in our daily routines that we forget how we ended up here. I often remind myself that it’s an honor to support our significant others in their service to this country, even when that makes our own career paths more challenging. MRM is the perfect time to recharge your career batteries and celebrate being part of this amazing military community.
There are only 11 tickets left so don’t miss out on MRM 2017! Visit the event page today for all the details and your ticket. See you on September 29th!
