Events Committee:

The Events Committee has been busy planning and preparing for Making the Right Moves, our 7th annual professional development conference, which will be held on Thursday, October 24 at Google in Washington DC.  For the first time, this event is being held in conjunction with the Veteran’s Legal Career Fair.  Other events are scheduled in DC to coincide with Making the Right Moves including a Library of Congress Tour, a Washington DC Meet-Up, the Veteran’s Legal Career Fair Employer Reception which are open to all MSJDN members. A big shout-out to Events Committee members Kelly Wilson, Amy Howard, and Andrea Barnes for all their hard work contributing to these events!

The Events Committee is looking for information on local meet-ups around the country.  Please let us know about them so that we can help advertise them for you.

Federal Employment Committee Update:

The first Federal Employment Committee meeting will be on 9 October 2019. Stay tuned for a list of projects we will be tackling over the coming year!

Finance Committee:

The Finance Committee has recently been working with the board to review the technology MSJDN uses in order to eliminate redundant services and identify areas for improvement. This month, the committee worked with our tech support provider to migrate web and email hosting, resulting in a savings of over $400 per year for MSJDN.

The Pro Bono Committee:

The Pro Bono Committee has begun work on a 50 State Domestic Violence Guide that we aim to release around this time next year. Our first Guide Committee meeting was held over the phone the last Friday in September. Please let Megan Kelley (Howard) or Nicolle Vasquez know if you would like to join the Guide project team and/or write the page(s) for your State.
We are happy to welcome more intake coordinators to the Pro Bono case placement team and expand our work for Gold Star families! Please let Megan Kelley (Howard) or Samantha Sliney know if you would like to help place cases referred from the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors and other organizations that support Gold Star families or if you wish to volunteer at a TAPS Good Grief seminar in your area. A very special thank you to our TAPS Northeast Regional Military Survivor & Good Grief Camp volunteers for next month, Heidi Lunasin and Sarah Ikena!
